What is an associate of general studies

The associate of general studies is to provide the student an opportunity to pursue a broad general education during the two years at a community college. It is intended as a flexible program for the student who is not pursuing a specified curriculum in the lower division transfer or professional-technical area.The required courses in a General Studies program often include English composition, biology and chemistry, geology, algebra, calculus, anthropology, geography, Western history, U.S. history, political science, sociology, art, literature, music appreciation, public speaking, and women’s studies. Each program varies, and may require different or additional courses.
