ICAI and ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) mutually recognise each other’s courses and degrees. Indian CAs enjoy an exemption of 7 out of 11 of their papers.
There is a similar arrangement with CGA (Certified General Accountants Association of Canada) and shortly with AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), USA. In fact the move is now towards total reciprocity under WTO guidelines.
ICAI has a similar agreement with the Italian accounting body, CNDC to strengthen its foothold in the EU.
With the introduction of integrated systems, technical expertise goes hand in hand with business knowledge. And as the need for technical savvy goes beyond data collection and analysis, familiarity with current accounting or finance-related software such as Oracle Financials may be a good idea.
Today success in the accounting field calls for an understanding of broader areas such as e-commerce, business application development and information systems security. Besides analysing complex financial data and preparing more detailed reports, CAs play a critical role in the technology initiatives of the company as well. You may even be required to guide your firm through financial systems conversion, upgrades and enterprise application and development.
Another useful option may be going in for Associate, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA), Australia.
You might consider taking the CPA exam if you wish to move to the US or Australia.
