University of Madras Ph.D Programmes
ADMISSION TO PH.D. DEGREE PROGRAMME for non-stipendiary candidates, IN ARTS, LANGUAGES, HUMANITIES, SOCIAL SCIENCES, SCIENCES AND BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES.
Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D. Degree from Non-stipendiary candidates for Full-time / Part-time Programme in the Departments of the University, Colleges affiliated to this University and Recognised Research Institutions in Arts Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences & Basic Medical Sciences for July 2006 Session
To facilitate a time bound approach admission to Ph.D Programme, admission could be made four times in a year (i.e.) in January, April, July and October of every calendar year Candidates should submit their applications on the first working day of a quarter viz., January, April, July and October.
ELIGIBILITY :
The teachers from University Departments / affiliated colleges are also informed that they should apply for admission to Ph.D. Programme in the above sessions.
Candidates with fellowships from funding agencies like UGC. CSIR, GATE etc, and Project-fellows could register any time of the year.
Candidates belonging to SC/ST are exempted from payment of Application Cost, as well as Registration fees subject to the production of attested Xerox Copy of Community Certificate issued by the competent authority.
FULL-TIME CANDIDATES ;
A candidate should have obtained a Master’s Degree with not less than Second Class or equivalent Grade. In the case ol examinations, where classification does not exist, a minimum of 50% marks is needed in the qualifying examination.
A candidate should pass an Entrance Examination (Written and Oral) administered by duly constituted committee of the Department in the University or of an affiliated college where the candidate proposes to undergo Ph.D. Programme.
PART-TIME CANDIDATES :
(a) A teacher working in the Department of the University or of an affiliated college of the University or Higher Secondary School or High School or Polytechnic within the territorial jurisdiction and with a qualifying degree fulfilling the above eligibility can apply.
(b) A candidate employed other than as a teacher in -a permanent job, within the territorial jurisdiction of this University with a minimum of four years of total working experience put in continuously with the qualifying degree and satisfying the rules framed separately by the Syndicate from time to time with the above eligibility can apply.
Application forms (both permission and Registration) can be had from the University enquiry Office on payment of Rs.260/-by way of an Account Payee Demand Draft from any Nationalised Bank drawn in favour of the “The Registrar, University of Madras, Chennai - 600 005″ along with the requisition letter, Postal Order and Money Order will not be accepted. Self addressed stamped envelope for Rs.12/- should accompany the requisition for application form through post.
Filled in application (Application Form for Admission to Ph.D. Programme only) along with attested Xerox copies of all the certificates should be sent directly to the. Head of the Department of the University /principal of the College/ Director of Research
Institution concerned and not to the Registrar, University of Madras
The date of issue of application is 1st June to 30th June 2006 for July Session; 1st September to 30th September 2006 for Oct.2006 Session; 1st December to 31st December 2006 for January 2007 Session and 1st March to 31st March 2007 for April 2007 Session. The last date for receipt of filled-in applications is 1st July 2006 for July Session, 1st October 2006 for October session, 1st January 2007 for January session 1st April 2007 for April session.
The University reserves the right not to conduct any of the above courses, if the circumstances so warrant.
